About Me

Overview

I am a native Midwesterner brought up in the suburbs of beautiful Minneapolis, Minnesota. I gained a Bachelor of Arts in Physics with a minor in Music Performance from Boston University (BU) in 2012 and a PhD in physics from the University of California, Berkeley in 2020. I returned to the Twin Cities in 2021 as a Research Physicist in 3M’s Corporate Research Analytical Lab and currently live in Eagan with my wife, daughter, and two cats.

Physics Interests

My research interests have focused on some of the most fascinating unanswered questions in contemporary physics.

While at BU (2008-2013), I worked on the Neutron Electric Dipole Moment (nEDM) Experiment, seeking to detect an aspherical distribution of charge in the neutron, and the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) Experiment, searching for new particles via high-energy proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Geneva, Switzerland.

While at UC Berkeley (2013-2020), I worked on the Simons Array, Simons Observatory, and LiteBIRD experiments, cutting-edge astrophysical observatories making high-precision measurements of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), the oldest light in the universe. We used data from the CMB to learn about some of the universe’s most profound mysteries, such as the nature of dark matter and dark energy, the evolution of galaxies, and the mechanism by which the universe itself came to be.

Today (2021-present), I am a research scientist at 3M headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota. I help run the Corporate Research Analytical Laboratory’s electromagnetics facility, where we measure the electrical properties of thin-films, adhesives, polymers, fluids, powders, composites, and more. My particular expertise is in dielectric spectroscopy and millimeter-wave characterization for 5G, semiconductor, and data center.

Other Interests

Outside of work, I’m a huge enthusiast of sports spectation (especially American football, baseball, basketball, and golf), I sing chorally (most recently with VocalEssence and the First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley), and I am active in the church (most recently at The House Church).
